Company History

In 1911, the six Benelli brothers repaired and manufactured motorcycle parts. They used this knowledge to create the first Benelli motorcycle.

Debuted in 1921, the 98cc two-stroke Velomotore came in a sport or touring model. Two years later, a 147cc version of the Velomotore was released. Three years later, a new type of motorcycle with a 175cc 4-stroke overhead camshaft engine emerged. It outperformed many of its larger displacement competitors.

In the years that followed, more Benelli motorcycles were released. Many of these models began winning races.

In 1995, the Merloni Group of Fabriano bought a majority stake in the company. Soon after, Benelli scooters were released. In 2005, Benelli became part of the award-winning Q.J. Group. In 2015, the Q.J. Group handed over North American Distribution of the Benelli product lines to SSR Motorsports. A premier distributor of deluxe pit bikes and on/off-road vehicles, SSR Motorsports continues to distribute Benelli motorcycles today.
